ABOUT GREG

REV. DR. GREGORY J. AMUNDSON

Dr. Amundson (Greg) is an ordained minister and ecclesiastically endorsed leader committed to proclaiming God’s Word with clarity and conviction. He holds dual master’s degrees in Ministry and Leadership and Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Theological Seminary, and earned his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Regent University, where his research focused on resilience pathways in law enforcement. Widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading authorities on resilience, leadership, pastoral counseling, and holistic wellness, Greg integrates theological insight with practical application to inspire transformation in both individuals and communities. Greg serves in federal law enforcement at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC). He is an adjunct assistant professor at Regent University, where he teaches courses in leadership, chaplaincy, and qualitative research methodology.

Greg infuses his sermons with a dynamic blend of passion, credibility, and real-world experience, particularly in the realms of faith and fitness. His late father, Dr. Raymond Amundson, was a multifaceted individual—Doctor of Chiropractic, Pastor, Bodybuilder, naval officer, Deep-Sea Diver, Champion Swimmer, and world-renowned Energetic Healer. His mother, Julianne, was a devoted Teacher, Minister, and Peace Corps Volunteer known for her impactful work in Jordan, which ultimately led to her passing in 2011. From an early age, Greg was immersed in a culture rich in healing practices, leadership, spirituality, and ministry.

Greg’s credentials underscore his expertise. In 2001, he became a founding athlete of the global CrossFit movement, personally mentored by its founder, “Coach” Greg Glassman. That same year, he began advanced studies in Krav Maga, becoming one of the first American law enforcement officers trained in this discipline under Mr. Londale Theus, the first American law enforcement officer certified to teach Krav Maga. Greg completed the demanding Lead Advanced Krav Maga FORCE Instructor Program in 2004, joining the Krav Maga Worldwide FORCE Division team and establishing himself as a respected authority in the field of Krav Maga.

His commitment to functional fitness and Krav Maga exemplifies his dedication to both physical and mental well-being. With over 20 years of teaching experience and an estimated 10,000 hours of instruction, Greg is esteemed by his peers, who refer to him as “Shihan,” “Sensi” (Master Teacher), and “Coach.” His journey culminated in 2018 when he earned his Krav Maga Black Belt and Diploma after a rigorous four-day testing process at Krav headquarters in Los Angeles. In addition to Krav Maga, Greg is an Honor Graduate of the Los Angeles Police Department Handgun Instructor School (HITS) and holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Greg’s professional journey reflects remarkable versatility. He served in state and federal law enforcement for over 22 years, holding various roles, including SWAT officer with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office and Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on the Southwest Border. He was the DEA Liaison to the esteemed Border Enforcement Security Task Force (BEST) Team. As a U.S. Army Military Police Captain and TAC Officer, Greg taught combatives, Yoga, CrossFit, and leadership at the United States Army Officer Candidate School. Following his tenure with the DEA and the Army, he spent ten years as a Peace Officer and Law Enforcement Chaplain with the Santa Cruz Harbor Police. In November 2021, he returned to full-time federal law enforcement as a Senior Instructor and Law Enforcement Training Advisor (LETA) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC), where he develops curricula focused on peak performance and adult learning theory, and coordinates Use of Force Instructor Training Programs.

Greg has been featured in numerous publications, including Competitor Magazine, Men’s Health, WOD Talk Magazine, Outside Magazine, Inside The Box Magazine, Santa Cruz Good Times, and Police Magazine. He served for several years as the Fitness Expert for Calibre Press Law Enforcement Magazine and Section Chair on Physical Fitness for the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA), where he and his team developed the nation’s first standardized SWAT Physical Fitness Qualification. His contributions to CrossFit and the law enforcement community have been chronicled in the bestselling books “Inside The Box” and “Learning to Breathe Fire.”

As a national bestselling author of ten books, including the Amazon #1 multi-category bestseller “The Warrior and The Monk”, Greg also hosts “The Greg Amundson Show” podcast on iTunes, which offers an encouraging warrior’s perspective on the Word of God.
